Green Cleaning, The Holidays

Give the Gift of Green Cleaning

I know what you may be thinking: “Why would I want to give someone cleaning supplies for Christmas? Isn’t that rude?”

There may be a stigma or two when it comes to buying someone a vacuum cleaner for Christmas, but green cleaning products are the perfect gift for several people on your list. They’re great for your kid in college who desperately needs to clean their dorm room, the mother who’s extremely hard to buy for and has everything, your health-conscious friend who just had a new baby, or your favorite eco-friendly couple that just got married.

For one, being “green” and going “all natural” is very trendy right now–which is a great thing because it’s going to do wonders for the environment. Another reason why this gift is so great is because it IS homemade. It shows that special someone that you took the time to make them something. This is so rare these days.

Okay, so for this gift basket we’re going to need to gather up some supplies.
You’ll need the following supplies for this project:

•microfiber towels (about 5-10)
•two plastic spray bottles, one small plastic bottle with removable cap
•kitchen bucket (or whatever kind of holder you choose)
•white vinegar, lemon juice, club soda, olive oil
•dried orange peels, cinnamon sticks, ginger, vanilla extract, a sachet to store
potpourri

-The first item we’re going to make for your green cleaning gift basket is natural
glass cleaner. Grab one of your empty spray bottles and mix together 1/3 cup
lemon juice, 1/2 cup water, and 1/2 cup club soda. Stir your glass cleaner up
well inside the bottle and put the nozzle top back on. Now your special someone
will have streak-free shine on windows and mirrors.

– The second item that’s going in your green cleaning gift basket is a natural
wood cleaner. Grab your plastic bottle with a removable cap and mix together
equal parts of lemon juice and olive oil. *Bonus* this also doubles as a salad
dressing!

– The third item that will go in your green cleaning basket is homemade, natural
potpourri. This could be made in a variety of ways, depending on the tastes of
your giftee. Grab some cinnamon sticks and mix with a few drops of vanilla
extract. You could add some natural wood chips to the potpourri to give it an
earthy texture. You could also make a potpourri mixture with dried orange
peels and some ginger slices. The possibilities are literally endless.

Last, add some great bonuses to your green cleaning gift basket by putting in some microfiber towels in a cool color and putting all your homemade items in a kitchen bucket or any kind of basket. Also if you live in the DFW, Austin, Phoenix, Houston, or Atlanta areas be sure to add a KIWI carpet cleaning gift certificate or some of our own Super Spotter, which is KIWI’s new all-purpose cleaner. You can always rely on KIWI for green cleaning with no harsh chemicals so it’s completely safe for everyone in your family.

Have a great holiday season and don’t forget to call KIWI when you take down your tree!
